Frequently Asked Questions

Before you enter our office, you may have a variety of questions about our treatments or office policies. We have collected some of our most frequently asked questions and posted them below. If you don't see the information you need here, please call us at 972-359-6611 so we can answer your questions.

How does Dr. Weyandt keep up to date on all of the current techniques and materials?

Dr. Weyandt is extensively trained. Because dentistry is constantly changing, she does a number of things to stay on top of all the current findings. She has attended continuing education courses in all areas of dentistry. She also belongs to a variety of organizations that offer seminars and conferences on developments in dentistry. Dr. Weyandt also reads dental journals extensively. She will be happy to tell you more about her studies when you visit our office.

Can you show me what my smile can look like ahead of time with imaging software?

Yes. Our office has the Dentrix digital imaging system. We can take pictures of your teeth with our digital camera or intra-oral camera and use our imaging system to create a picture of how a particular treatment or procedure would change the appearance of your teeth. If you have questions about our digital imaging system, Dr. Weyandt would be more than happy to demonstrate how it works.

How do I know when it's time to come in for a checkup?

We would like to see you twice a year if you have good dental hygiene. We may adjust this time period depending on the state of your teeth.

At what age should my children first see a dentist?

We would like to see children after their third birthday. When they come in for an exam, we will try to examine their mouth and see how their teeth are developing. We try to make this visit as fun and relaxing as possible so your children will enjoy coming to the dentist.

Do you accept referrals?

Yes. We always welcome new patients to our office.

What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is closed?

If you have an emergency, please call our office number at 972-359-6611 and follow the instructions to contact the doctor.

I have a temporary crown in my mouth. What happens if it comes off or breaks?

When a temporary crown falls off or breaks, reattach the crown using dental adhesive or toothpaste. Call us immediately so we can schedule an appointment to replace it. Dr. Weyandt may simply reapply the temporary crown or fit the permanent crown if it is available.

How can I ask Dr. Weyandt questions directly?

How can I safely whiten my teeth?

Whitening is very popular and many people are curious about the benefits and side effects of whitening. Since each mouth is unique, we need to evaluate your teeth to recommend a specific method. If your teeth are cracked, chipped, or discolored, Dr. Weyandt may recommend restorative services, such as veneers or bonding. If you want to whiten your teeth, we use the Zoom!T In-Office Whitening System and Nite White in our office.

What precautions do you take to ensure patient safety?

We follow a number of health and safety guidelines. First, our office complies and exceeds OSHA standards for safety. All of our staff also maintains their current CPR certification. With every patient, we follow universal precautions. These safety procedures are established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Dental Association (ADA). Under these precautions, our dental team is required to use the appropriate protective wear, such as gloves, masks and eyewear. After your visit, we disinfect the operatory and sterilize all of the equipment. We have a sterilization center where we can maximize efficient sterilization and minimize the chance of contamination through human error. If you have any questions, we would be happy to demonstrate our sterilization procedures. You can also view the CDC Infection Control guidelines online at www.cdc.gov.

What makes you different than any other dental practice I can visit?

From the moment you walk through the door, you will see how different our brand of dentistry is from any other you have experienced. First, Dr. Weyandt is exceptionally skilled in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. She's serious about your treatment and will take the time to make sure your dental health is the best it can be.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

Yes, you should be very concerned about bleeding gums, especially if you haven't had an exam in a while. Bleeding gums may be a symptom of several problems, such as leaky fillings or gum disease. While it may seem harmless, bleeding gums can cause a variety of serious health problems. If your gums are bleeding, call us as soon as possible to schedule an appointment so we can analyze the cause.

I really do not like visiting the dentist, is there anything you can do to help me relax?

Many patients are nervous about receiving dental treatment. We offer nitrous oxide to help make your visit more comfortable. . Often referred to as laughing gas, nitrous can help anyone who is excessively nervous about their visit

I brush everyday, but my breath just is not fresh. Is there anything I can do?

In our office, we sell Breath RxT, a product that can improve your breath odor. If you have questions about ways to improve your breath, ask any of us during your appointment, or call us at 972-359-6611.

Do I have to floss every day? Is it really that important?

Brushing cleans about 80% of your teeth while flossing covers the remaining 20%. Although that seems like a small percentage, this area is where the serious problems originate. That's why Dr. Weyandt believes cleaning this area by flossing is very important. In addition to flossing, she encourages her patients use an electric toothbrush, such as a Braun Oral B or Sonic Care toothbrush, which are more effective at plaque removal.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

There are a variety of ways to improve the appearance of your teeth without braces. We offer many cosmetic services to straighten your teeth, such as porcelain veneers or Invisalign, which uses a system of clear Aligners to straighten your teeth in as little as 12 months. Since each mouth is unique, we need to evaluate your teeth to recommend a specific method. After listening to your goals and concerns, Dr. Weyandt can suggest ways to help you straighten your smile.

My spouse snores and keeps me up at night. I have heard a dentist might be able to prescribe an appliance that prevents snoring. Can you help?

Certainly. We offer snore-guards, a small appliance that holds the mouth and throat open while you sleep and thus, prevents snoring. These devices are easy to use and we custom fit them to ensure your comfort. If you or your spouse snores, we suggest visiting us for an evaluation.

What is Smile Analysis?

In a Smile Analysis, we look at all the factors that compose a smile; these are the shape of a smile, the size, the smile line, and the position of your teeth, lips, and gums when you smile. We listen to what you want to accomplish and any concerns you may have. Once we have this information, we can provide a custom smile design.

What payment options do you offer?

In this day and age, we know deciphering your insurance benefits can be confusing. That’s why we will file your claim for you, as long as you pay for your co-pay at the time of your appointment. You can pay for our services with cash or check. We also accept Master Card, Visa, and Discover. Any amount not covered by your insurance is your responsibility.

We feel, however, that your insurance should never dictate the quality or timing of your treatment. If you have extensive or long term dental care, our office offers financial assistance through Dental Fee Plan. We are happy to help you with insurance concerns, so if you have any questions, please contact us at 972-359-6611.
